Nevada tax payers have just been duped. Despite strong public opposition, the Nevada Senate came together in a bi-partisan way to rob us of $750 million for a stadium. The state did not need to pay this public money. Its backers are rich enough to fund it on their own. Yet the Senate voted 16-5 in favor with many R’s & D’s in favor.
Now the Assembly gets its turn. I dont hold out much hope. But everyone in Nevada who cares about our public education, crumbling infrastructure, and corporate handouts should contact their assembly person and tell them to vote NO.
Sadly, my Assembly person is the majority leader in District 13, who is pushing the vote in favor. And he apparently has no Democratic opponent for the general.
Shameful !
Update: Jon Ralston, the gold standard for reporting NV politics, has tweeted that the Assembly needs about 9 dems to reach the votes necessary. So this travesty can still be stopped. His tweet:
I'm told Raiders owner Mark Davis may be here later this week to try to help close the deal in the Assembly. Bottom line: need about 9 Dems.
