The New York Times' lawyers have responded to Donald Trump's embarrassingly sophomoric threat to sue the paper for the sexual assault story it ran, and they all but say, "Dude, go head. You're gonna lose, BIGLY."
First, the lawyers "decline" to remove the story from their site. Then they explain to Trump’s lawyers what a libel case is: "the protection of one's reputation." Then they recount the multiple ways in which Trump has repeatedly defamed himself publicly, bragging about sexual assaulting women, ogling them, etc. Then:
"We did what the law allows: We published newsworthy information about a subject of deep public concern. If Mr. Trump disagrees, if he believes that American citizens had no right to hear what these women had to say and that the law of this country forces us and those who would dare to criticize him to stand silent or be punished, we welcome the opportunity to have a court set him straight."
BAM!
Sorry, you guys are idiots. If you want to force us to prove that to you in a court of law, be our guest.
Sincerely,
The New York Times
