Fredericka Phillips is running for the 61st Civil District Court. Hazel Jones is running for the 174th Criminal District Court. Neither candidate is incumbent. These courts are trial courts for major cases, in the latter instance for felony cases.

Fredericka Phillips has her law degree from the South Texas College of Law. She previously received a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Lamar University Beaumont. She is licensed to practice law in the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Northern, and Southern Districts of Texas, as well as the US Fifth Circuit. She is licensed in all Texas state courts. She has broad experience in civil litigation and property law, having represented both individuals and businesses.
Hazel Jones has her law degree from the Harvard University Law School. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Texas at Austin. She has experience both as a prosecutor and as a defense lawyer. She has served as an Assistant District Attorney for Harris County. She has also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Texas.

The final election date is Tuesday, Nov. 8. To vote you should have registered in Harris County by Tuesday Oct. 11. Early voting starts Monday Oct. 24. Voting early gives one time to rectify problems, avoid long lines at the polls. You may vote early at any of the locations in Harris County, but on Nov. 8 you must vote at your precinct location.
