When the AZ Republic had the courage to endorse its first democrat for president, I decided to support them with a year’s online subscription (which turned out to be only $10!). They did experience a lot of blowback, as you might guess. But this morning’s editorial following the third debate was as unflinching and direct as their original endorsement, and had at least one real zinger (below).
But it was his refusal to say he would accept the outcome of the election that demonstrated his utter lack of fitness for the presidency.
The describe this as “profound selfishness” and “a lack of respect for voters and the voting process.”
Trump is challenging our democratic system from the platform of one of the major parties. This is a deeply irresponsible and a glaring example of his disrespect for our system of government — and for the Republican Party he has hijacked.
Here they have helped their republican subscribers to understand that rejecting Donald is not disloyalty to their party — it might even be supporting the party against its current greatest enemy. They go on to address the 20% of their electorate who still consider themselves “undecided,” and admonish readers not to stay home on election day. “There are two choices. The debate made clear there is only one qualified candidate.”
All to the good. But my favorite line in the editorial is when they cut loose a bit.
His claim that “Nobody has more respect for women than me,” could not have been more absurd had it been spoken by Jack the Ripper.
