Many of the reader here are familiar with the political geography of Pennsylvania.
What used to be solid Rockefeller Republican suburban counties outside of Philadelphia have turned blue. The third largest county in the state, Montgomery County went blue at the county level for the first time in 2011.
The problem is we are still digging ourselves out of the great gerrymander of 2010, on the Federal and State level. For example, the very definition of a political hack, Rep. Pat Meehan was gerrymandered into PA-7 and almost every voter of color was drawn out of his district.
But we are on the move.
Gov. Tom Wolf came down to Montgomery County today to support local Democrats. He spoke to a large crowd of seniors at Shannondell, a retirement community. The idea is that older voters tend to be GOP, but that was not in evidence today.
Wolf spoke and endorsed local candidates like Montgomery County Executive, Josh Shapiro for State Attorney General. And for the open seat of PA-150, which is being contested by Linda Weaver a Special Education teacher of 42 years in her first battle for elective office. Linda is running a great positive campaign that is resonating in the district.
