Jim Peacock is running for Chief Justice of the 1st Texas Court of Appeals. Harris and some surrounding counties elect judges to the 1st and 14th Courts of Appeals. This season I am just a volunteer. I am not a lawyer.
Cases can be appealed from trial courts to a Court of Appeals. From these Courts of Appeals, civil cases can be appealed to the Texas Supreme Court. On the other hand, criminal cases go to the Court of Criminal Appeals, so that in effect Texas has 2 supreme courts. On race occasions these 2 courts have actually ruled against each other, without a way to break the impasse.
Jim Peacock has his law degree from Texas Tech University. He has an undergraduate degree from Rice University.
He has more than 34 years’ experience in litigation and has tried some 200 jury trials up to a verdict. He has tried a very wide range of cases, say from car accidents to civil rights cases. In civil case s he has primarily represented plaintiffs but has also represented corporations. In criminal cases he has represented both sides.
The final election date is Tuesday, Nov. 8. To vote you should have registered in Harris County by Tuesday Oct. 11.
