From time to time, I have posted musical birthday diaries. This diary is no different in content, but I am celebrating a personal anniversary. You see, it was 29 years ago today that I poured the remains of a bottle of whiskey into the toilet, and flushed. I was due to go to rehab in five days, and they told me that, if I didn’t want to start my stint in detox, I had to come in clean for five days. I don’t know how I got through the next five days, but I did. October 23, 1987. The end of my old life, and the beginning of a new adventure.
There are not enough words of gratitude in me to cover the literally hundreds of folks who have helped me to this point. Many of them remain “older” in sobriety than me. Some didn’t make it, and inhabit my heart and my soul now. And, every day, I see the new men and women, their eyes shining with a hope they thought was gone forever.
So, as usual, this music is for all those who have been born on this date, and for all those enjoy music. But it is also for all those who live in the miracle of Today.
Happy birthdays to:
