Per the NY Times, the new e-mails that appear “pertinent” to the Hillary Clinton e-mail investigation appear to have come from Anthony Weiner’s phone, which was seized because of the Bureau’s ongoing investigation of the “sexting” scandal. The e-mails allegedly came from Huma and appear to have some relevance to the FBI investigation of Hillary’s private e-mail server.
WASHINGTON — Federal law enforcement officials said Friday that the new emails uncovered in the closed investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server were discovered after the F.B.I. seized electronic devices belonging to Huma Abedin, a top aide to Mrs. Clinton, and her husband, Anthony Weiner.
However, this is still most likely a giant nothing-burger because:
1) James Comey is under an obligation to correct his Congressional testimony when and if elements of that testimony are no longer truthful. He told Congress he closed the investigation, so now that agents are reviewing material that may be pertinent, he has to tell Congress that he’s reopening the investigation, even if it’s really, really unlikely to lead to anything.
2) If it’s just three e-mails, there’s almost no chance this will result in anything substantial unless those e-mails are like, “Hey Anthony, I’m totally lying to the FBI as I’m sending you this e-mail, isn’t that cool?” or if there’s like a 30,000 e-mail attachment.
3) Everyone who is already pissed about the private server thing (people like me) are already as pissed about it as they are going to get. I’m still voting for Hillary, and everyone else will too.
What we don’t want to do is appear hysterical and make wild claims in defense of Hillary that make us seem overly defensive, aka, “the letter has nothing to do with the investigation of Hillary’s private e-mail server.”
I’m not a huge fan of Hillary or her brand of politics, but she’s going to get this to the finish line and avoid a Trump presidency. Just focus on the positive.
