1. Hillary campaigning in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Politico reports:
Clinton in Iowa: 'Anything can happen'
“We’ve got to keep our foot on the gas,” Clinton, who leads Trump nationally and in many key battleground states, told supporters at a rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. …
Instead, she accused Trump of relying on a suppressed turnout to win the White House.
“Here’s his campaign strategy — he hasn’t made it a big secret. His strategy is to get women to stay home, get young people to stay home, get people of color to stay home,” she said. “It’s all part of his scorched-earth campaign, the last refuge of a bankrupt candidate. And it goes against everything we stand for in America.”
“Now, we’re not gonna let that happen, are we? And you know how we will do that?” she continued. “By voting. By showing up with the biggest turnout in history. More women voting. More young people voting. More people of color voting. More Americans of every kind voting for a good, positive, unified vision of the future.”
Pics from the event:
2. Obama campaigning for Hillary, Murphy in Orlando, Florida
President Obama was in Orlando on Friday, campaigning for Hillary and Patrick Murphy.
Orlando Sentinel:
President Obama, at UCF, urges millennials to vote for Clinton, Murphy
In a rousing speech before a capacity crowd at the University of Central Florida, President Barack Obama late Friday called on Florida voters — especially young millennials — to carry on his legacy by electing Hillary Clinton president and Patrick Murphy senator.
"Young people, let me say this," Obama told the crowd of about 9,000 at CFE Arena. "You have the chance right now to reject mean-spirited politics that takes us back ... You have the chance to shape history. Don't let that chance slip away."
Obama's message was tailored to a largely young crowd that likely included many voters who supported Hillary Clinton's Democratic primary opponent, Bernie Sanders.
History will be made on November 8. No media noise will be able to change that.
"Media stories go up and down; there's a lot of noise," Obama said. "It's hard for folks to sort out what's right and wrong, true and false. Which is why the other guy thinks he can just say whatever he wants."
Obama cited an improved economy, lower unemployment, gay marriage and increased access to health care as his accomplishments and warned that they were all at stake in the election.
"In almost every measure, we are significantly better [off] than we were eight years ago," he said. But, he added, "All the progress made over the last eight years goes out the window if we don't win this election."

It's time to unify, support, and vote for the only choice that makes sense not only for women or for Latinos, but for all Americans. Vote for Hillary. I'm with her."

4. The Road Trip that Changed Hillary Clinton’s Life
The New York Times has an interesting article on Hillary’s early life and a special road trip that changed Hillary’s life.
New York Times:
The Road Trip that Changed Hillary Clinton's life
Hillary Rodham gazed out the window of the beat-up ’68 Buick rolling down Interstate 81, and saw spruce trees, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the life she’d left behind.
Ms. Rodham, then a 26-year-old lawyer, had just finished working on the Watergate committee and wanted to be with her boyfriend, Bill Clinton, who was teaching law in Arkansas.
Her landlord, Sara Ehrman, who worried her bright young tenant was throwing away her future, offered to drive her down from Washington, and over the course of two days and 1,193 miles in August 1974, Mrs. Ehrman tried to talk Ms. Rodham out of her plan.
“We’d drive along and I’d say, ‘Hillary, for God’s sake,’ ” Mrs. Ehrman, now 97, recalled. “He’ll just be a country lawyer down there.”
But each time Mrs. Ehrman would raise the issue, Ms. Rodham would politely respond: “I love him, and I want to be with him.”
But they talked, about life and careers and love, usually ending up in the same spot, with Mrs. Ehrman seeing talent and promise in Ms. Rodham, and little of the same in her boyfriend. “Every 25 or 30 miles, I would say, ‘Do you know what you’re doing?’ ” she said. “He may never get a job. He can’t make a living.”
….
When she dropped her off in Arkansas some 42 years ago, Mrs. Ehrman never dreamed that a young Hillary Rodham would be one election away from possibly becoming president herself. But, as the years went by, she came to see the wisdom of her young tenant’s choices.
.
Sara Ehrman was an early friend, mentor and landlady to Hillary.
5. James Franco Thinks Hillary Clinton is the “Smartest Guy in the Room”
Jezebel.com:
James Franco Thinks Hillary Clinton Is the 'Smartest Guy in the Room'
Celebrity endorsements are so fun. They can say naughty words and get goofy in a way ads from the actual candidates can’t. Their only weakness is, really, who gives a shit what celebrities think about the election?
AdWeek reports that James Franco’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton was paid for by womenvoteproject.org, and not authorized by Clinton herself, but I’ll bet she enjoyed watching it. Over a montage of Clinton swigging shots and looking sharp as hell in all her pantsuits, Franco says:
I don't usually endorse candidates, but when I do they're extraordinary #MostInterestingWoman
The smartest guy in the room is always her.
After she opens a can of whoop-ass, she always recycles the can.
Her Secret Service code name is Hermione, because she’s a f*cking wizard.
She is the Most Interesting Woman in the World.
I don’t always endorse candidates, but when I do, they’re extraordinary.
“Vote wisely, my friends,” he adds with a wink, like a suffragette Captain Morgan (dibs on that Halloween costume).

6. Dame Helen Mirren Backs Hillary in “No Regrets” Video
Reuters has this info on Helen Mirren strongly endorsing Hillary:
Dame Helen Mirren backs Hillary in 'No Regrets' video
Dame Helen Mirren has released a video supporting Hillary Clinton and asking American voters to learn from Brexit.
Transcript:
Dame Helen Mirren is urging Americans to reflect on the surprise that was Britain's decision to leave the EU - and vote on November 8.
The video, entitled 'No Regrets,' has been funded by Humanity for Hillary. Talking about making the film, Mirren said: "Never could I have imagined Britain voting to leave the EU, but it happened. And the global shockwaves, confusion and regret felt in the wake of Brexit should serve as a warning to the United States, which I love and consider a second home. Imagine how you'll feel if you do not vote November 8.
The unthinkable really can happen, and I strongly believe that love does trump hate. Vote."
The referendum vote (Brexit) held on June 23 was expected to result in the United Kingdom remaining in the EU, but leave unexpectedly won by 52% to 48%. The referendum turnout was 71.8%, with more than 30 million people voting. The world was stunned by the vote - and led to many expressing remorse for note voting OR voting to leave, including a petition signed by over 100,000 people.
Humanity for Hillary is a social media and cultural campaign that has reached an audience of more than 100 million people online. Their focus has been artist led videos and memes that have been viewed over 30 million times.
7. Strong Economic Performance seen as boon to Hillary and Democrats
ABC News reports:
Hillary Clinton Could See Election Boost From Economic Rebound
Now that the U.S. economy is expanding at a faster clip, Hillary Clinton could see a boost in the final days of the presidential campaign, according to ABC News chief political analyst Matthew Dowd.
The Commerce Department said today that the economy grew by an estimated 2.9 percent in the third quarter, up from 1.4 percent in the second quarter. That estimate, the last one before the Nov. 8 election, beat expectations and was the fastest rate of growth in two years.
Dowd said today's GDP report will likely boost Americans’ sense that the country is headed in the right direction, and it could positively affect President Obama's approval rating.
“There’s a direct correlation between a president’s job approval rating and how they do as a party in an election,” Dowd said.
Obama’s approval and the percentage of Americans who feel the country is headed in the right direction “will have the most impact on the election,” Dowd said.
Moody's chief economist Mark Zandi agreed.
"The economy is at the back of Secretary Clinton," Zandi told ABC News. "There is close to a record number of job openings and layoffs have never been lower. Wage growth is picking up."
8. Hillary Clinton targets Arizona in home stretch
The LA Times has the scoop on Hillary targeting, and making a campaign appearance in, Arizona now.
LA Times:
Hillary Clinton targets Arizona in home stretch
Hillary Clinton will campaign in Arizona on Wednesday, a sign that her team sees more states up for grabs in the home stretch of the presidential race.
Arizona has voted Republican in every presidential election except one since 1952. But Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook told reporters that it’s “another battleground state that is now on the map,” especially as its growing Latino population tilts the scales in Democrats’ favor.
Mook said one-third of the expected Arizona electorate has already voted, and the campaign believes that it is deadlocked there with Republican nominee Donald Trump. By comparison, he said, Mitt Romney was leading President Obama in Arizona by about 9 nine percentage points at the same point in the 2012 election.
9. Here’s why Hillary Clinton is locking arms with Barack Obama
Here’s why Hillary Clinton is locking arms with Barack Obama
The Clinton campaign is out with a new ad today featuring President Obama that ends with Hillary and Barack literally arm-in-arm, and while Obama has been doing campaign events for Clinton for a while now, it’s worth noting how unusual this is. In fact, in our modern history we’ve never seen a president closing out his second term campaign this aggressively for his party’s pick to replace him, and we’ve never seen a nominee who wanted that help so much.
The reasons why this is happening now illuminate all the key structural factors that are combining to make Clinton’s election if not inevitable then at least highly, highly likely. First, let’s check out the ad:
.
The author lays out reasons why Obama is so heavily involved in this campaign, in detail, in his view.
I’ll highlight the headers of each paragraph, go check out the article:
Here are the main reasons:
She was never the vice president.
Partisan loyalty is firmer than ever before.
The “Emerging Democratic Majority” is coming to pass.
The politics of white grievance no longer frightens Democrats.
10. Alicia Keys Says 'We Were Born to Love' in Pro-Hillary Clinton MoveOn Video: Watch
Billboard:
Alicia Keys Says 'We Were Born to Love' in Pro-Hillary Clinton MoveOn Video: Watch
First Lady Michelle Obama has been called Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's best surrogate on the stump. But coming in a close second is singer Alicia Keys. The Voice coach and "Blended Family" singer makes her closing argument in favor of voting for the former Secretary of State in an impassioned three-minute MoveOn.orgvideo released on Thursday night (Oct. 27).
Entitled "I Vote Love," the stark clip focuses on Keys standing in front of a blank background describing why this election has so profoundly touched her, as "a woman, a black woman, a human being." Watching the hateful words that have flown in this election, Keys says that despite the heated rhetoric, she refuses to believe we've lost our dream for a future with equality and justice for all.
The singer is one of a growing list of artists who've been speaking out and lining up performances on behalf of Clinton (and voting early) in the final weeks of the presidential campaign. The day after Alicia's "I Vote Love" video dropped, she released a new song "Holy War" from her upcoming album, Here (out Nov. 4), which continues her message of love.
11. Charming and Inspiring Stories from Hillary Clinton’s Oldest Supporters
From Forward.com comes this heartwarming story:
Charming and Inspiring Stories from Hillary Clinton’s Oldest Supporters
Some women born before women in the United States got the right to vote, in 1920, are now casting their votes for Hillary Rodham Clinton. Like the symbolism Michelle Obama spoke of about being a black family waking up in a White House built by slaves each morning, the thought of women born into a world in which they were disenfranchised at the polls and are now about to cast a ballot for a female commander in chief speaks volumes.
….
Benor explained in a phone interview that when her grandmother voted in the primary elections for Hillary Clinton, she posted the photo and there was some interest. Her grandmother is on home hospice for a heart problem and was told eighteen months ago that she would probably have six to twelve months to live. Estelle Schultz was determined to live long enough to cast her ballot for the first female president and now to live long enough to see the inauguration. Her grandmother asked her mother to photograph her filling out her ballot on a Wednesday, the day she gets her hair done. When Benor posted to Facebook there was even more response and Benor began to realize how symbolically laden her grandmother’s vote truly was. At her Los Angeles synagogue IKAR, she spoke with Tom Fields-Meyer, a journalist who thought the story of her grandmother and other women born before 1920 voting for a female president was worth a website and blog. With that, I Waited 96 Years! which currently contains the stories of forty voters and is seeking more, was born.
This is the inspiring website with all the stories:
I waited 96 Years!
12. Why Hillary Can Unite the Country
From the Huffington Post comes this article on how Hillary will be able to unite the country in the long run.
Why Hillary can Unite the Country
The question more people are asking is how will Hillary be able to unite the country after she is elected. This campaign has made it clearer than ever how divided a nation we are. Donald Trump’s incredibly negative and divisive campaign, his speech and his actions, have exacerbated the divisions. We have seen some people take his campaign as permission to model poor behavior voicing their own racism, homophobia, sexism and misogynistic tendencies.
These divisions won’t go away or be healed quickly. It will take time, education and rational people in both the Republican and Democratic Party working hard to heal the rifts and allow the country to move forward together. My optimism leads me to believe it can and will happen.
The reason for that optimism is Hillary Clinton. She has a lifetime of experience working to heal rifts and sooth hurt feelings. Actually many women have the same experience in their own lives and their own families.
The author of this piece, Peter Rosenstein, goes on to explain a lot of the instances and phases when Hillary was able to bring diverse people together:
- To work on successful adoption and foster care legislation she worked across the partisan aisle, with two unlikely partners: former Republican Minority Whip Tom Delay of Texas and business leader Dave Thomas of Wendy’s, a lifelong Republican.
- Hillary worked with Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) to get the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) passed.
- Hillary worked alongside Republican governors across the country, including Pennsylvania Gov. Ridge, New Jersey Gov. Whitman, and Utah Gov. Leavitt to promote the Insure Kids Now campaign and make sure the children who needed coverage were able to sign up.”
- Then when in the Senate Hillary worked with Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and others on healthcare for the National Guard.
Mr. Rosenstein concludes the article with:
All one has to do is watch Hillary as the campaign nears its end. She is speaking more of uniting people; Democrats, Republicans and Independents. She understands the difficulty of what she will be up against but I will put my money on Hillary to succeed. ‘Stronger Together‘ is not just a slogan to her; it is her vision for our future, a better future for all.
As always, I close this HNV with a collection of the latest inspiring and truth telling Hillary Tweets.
Have a great weekend, everyone. 10 more days. Stronger Together!
