All right my friends, it’s time to step up to the plate and put this one outta da park. The finish line is in sight, less than 5 weeks away. Hillary Clinton is in a good place right now, but we need to haul ass to open this thing up to the “no brainer” point. This means registering voters, knocking on doors, manning the phone lines, all of that boring, unglamorous, hard work shit that nobody likes to do, but to be successful, somebody has to do it.
But my beloved Kossacks, it can’t just be about Hillary and the White House. There are 435 House seats up this year, and 30+ Senate seats up for grabs. I know, it’s an impossible task, except that it’s not, for a couple of purely simple reasons.
First, we are already helping in every race. Registering voters, motivating voters and getting voters out to the polls for Hillary can only help the down ballot candidates towards success. It’s the natural beauty of the process. We are already doing that, and it appears to be working.
But it’s also true that we’re talking about almost 490 individual races. It’s perfectly true, no one person that can have an impact on all of those races, not if they’re going to eat and sleep. But we are not one person. We are the juggernaut that is The Daily Kos. And while we can’t physically be in every Congressional district, and every state race, we sure as hell can be in the online arena, and that is where these battles are increasingly being fought. Why do you think progressive candidates join the Kos to get their case out there?!? With our numbers we can easily cover every race for five little weeks.
This is all I am asking my Kossack brethren to do. We have many, many talented diarists on this site. Most of them are not in my situation, medically retired and able to do this each and every day, they have jobs to do, and lives to lead. But they find the time to post wonderful diaries on the site. All I’m asking you to do is to look at your home Congressional district, either state or U.S., or go to the wonderfully informative 90for90.org , it is full of qualified progressive candidates, even down to local races. Pick one.
Once you’ve done that, please, I beg you, write just one candidate diary about that candidate. It isn’t hard, if you need a little boost getting started, please feel free to Kosmail me and I’ll be glad to help! It’s not glamorous, you won’t get to the Rec List, I never do with those either, but that’s not the point. It was explained to me a long time ago that there are a sizeable number of readers who may not be members, but they are politically motivated, and they have money to share if they know who to share it with. We can be the conduit that bring the two together, giving our candidates resources for things as simple as yard signs and mailers, maybe even venues for more events.
If you don’t want to do that, find your local candidate, find their appearance schedule and post a “quick hit” with their next upcoming appearance. This can drive local Kossacks out to these events, and more importantly, if the campaign gets wind of the diary, they may well post it to their Facebook page or Tweet it out to make more people aware, it’s happened to me.
It’s really not that hard. It should only take an hour or so. But if we do this, each one of us can come together to make a massive difference. Texas is a perfect example. While Hillary may well not win the state, the changing demographics in population makeup, and T
rumps alienation of African American and Latino voters could make for some election day surprises if we can register, GOTV and highlight our candidates. The same thing in places like GA and NC. It can also helpt lock down swing states like NV and FL. We can do this, but we all have to commit to work together to “Git ‘er DONE!”.
Thanks as always for reading, and GO Blue!
