Kamala Harris, a Democrat running for the Senate in California against fellow Democrat Loretta Sanchez managed to respond well to ongoing assaults by Loretta Sanchez. It was bitter, it was acidic, it was difficult to hear the tone Sanchez inserted in her attacks on Harris. “Flying first class, on Trump’s private plane, up there with the fancy San Francisco socialites...” Sanchez ranted. Each question presented to Sanchez required the moderator interceding many times to have her stop speaking to honor the time agreement.
Harris to her credit managed to stay on message and called out Loretta Sanchez for being absent to the position she holds for the Armed Forces committee, while Sanchez took credit for her trips “out of her own pocket” to Afghanistan, Iraq, and spoke of her commitment that contributed to free junior college for her district.
Raucous is the only word that comes to mind. Kept thinking I wouldn’t want to have to hear another such debate: two democrats, and yet it just didn’t feel like that. It felt rough and edgy and unresolved in terms of the ongoing assertions being thrown about by Sanchez. Kamala held her own.
