Here’s a screencap taken from Ezra Klein’s website. In spite of the above, voters went for Trump.
This does remind me of the election of Ronald Reagan. He was a movie star, Trump a reality show star. He sold them his platform as a reality show. You could go for the red meat of his slogans, and believe his Businessman chops just like he was on the Apprentice, and also he wasn’t responsible for any of the things that you didn’t like about America because he wasn’t a politician. They don’t really think he can do all that he promised but they know for sure that he would “shake things up”
That’s it. If you hate reality cuz it sucks, than go for the Reality Show.
Whereas Hillary is a policy wonk, bore down into the details, Could not for the life of her come up with a sexy slogan, like Yes We Can, or Drain the Swamp. She made people’s eye glaze over and her parsing defences against criticism sounded like weak alibis. She didn’t make a good candidate, could not excite a crowd, or seduce the press, and she kept saying she was a workhorse, which is a pretty sad image.
But I truly believe she would have been a good president. Not one of the Greats, but compared to what we have now? She would have kept American going, on a steady but unexciting path of incremental improvement.
People did not want that. Look at the chart above. They wanted CHANGE, and they definitely got it.
