Hello everyone,
It's weird to be thinking about the politics of the land, riding right now on a nighttime Greyhound bus speeding from New York City to Boston. To know that because of the past week's events, the next four years at least--beginning roughly 10 weeks from now---will likely be some rough, loud, possibly violent times for many of us.
I voted for Hillary Clinton. I'd concluded she'd make a good President, & voted for her with a clear conscience. She doesn't radiate her passions & convictions like Obama does, but she would have done some good things.
Trump won the election, fair & square, with a minority of votes to Clinton's. People are in the streets, angry, scared, defiant. My wife & I marched with them in the NYC demonstrations this weekend. My favorite sign: "Pussy Grabs Back!"
It feels like a time to grieve, to re-assess, but there's no such time to spend. Senator Elizabeth Warren say now is the time to get involved, & stay in touch. Here’s her interview, if you haven’t seen it:
Trump is a nasty bit of work. Likes to blame & threaten those he thinks he can intimidate. Brings out the worst in supporters & foes alike.
It's time to resist. Now & hereon. If you aren't worried for yourself, then worry for your friends, your neighbors. Trump's promises & threats are on the table. He collected votes by what he will try to do to the most vulnerable of us. People of color. Women. LGBTQ. The elderly. Immigrants. The list goes on.
It's time to resist. Now & hereon. It will be hard. Suck sometimes. But none of us are alone. Get involved. Stay in touch.
It's time to resist. Now & hereon. I'm in, all in. I hope each of you is too. Get involved, stay in touch!
Peace,
Raymond
