How odd is it that an Independent is the future of the Democratic Party? Or, at least his message is the future of the Democratic Party — if they have the wisdom to listen.
Who in the Dem Party right now would sell out a college lecture in minutes , have them wait 6 hours in line WITH tickets so as to get a good seat, pack the auditorium and have the students screaming like they were at a rock concert? Sen Schumer? Nope. Nancy Pelosi? No. Maybe Elizabeth Warren. Perhaps Hillary Clinton?
You can deride Sanders for all your reasons, but there is no denying, the man generates massive enthusiasm from many quarters, especially from the young voters — our future. They love his message and his authenticity.
Bernie Sanders spoke last night at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD as part of the Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium, a lecture series to present issues of local, national and global importance. The link includes a video of the raucous reception Bernie received from the crowd.
The free lecture was completely booked minutes after reservations opened. Fans waited in line as long as six hours to hear Sanders speak.
Like on the campaign, Sanders appearance required overflow rooms for those who wanted to attend.
An estimated 2,000 people filled the auditorium and overflow rooms. Joshan Bajaj, a Hopkins junior who campaigned for Sanders back home in Princeton, N.J., was first in line; he showed up at 1 p.m. for the 7 p.m. appearance.
Is Schumer really the face of the Dem Party that we want or need right now? I get it, it was “his turn”. How well did that kind of thinking turn out?
