While the corporate media fixates its eye on the shiny “Hamilton” object, and the New York Times’ Nicholas Kristof agonizes over what he really meant when he urged us to “give the Trump Administration a chance,” The President-elect has staffed his Administration with what the founder of the Daily Stormer, a website advocating anti-Semitism and white supremacy, and encouraging hatred (and implicitly, violence) against African-Americans, Jews and Hispanics, describes as his ideal “Dream Team:”
“Basically, we are looking at a Daily Stormer Dream Team in the Trump administration,” wrote Andrew Anglin, founder of the white supremacist, neo-Nazi site the Daily Stormer on Friday.
The Dream Team includes the appointment of avowed racist Jeff Sessions as Attorney General, the elevation of anti-Semitic white “nationalist” Steve Bannon, CEO of Breitbart News, as chief advisor, and Michael Flynn, a proven incompetent, anti-Muslim psychotic, as his National Security Advisor.
Meanwhile, the purveyors of the white hoods and swastika, all dressed up in their new suits, are openly celebrating their victory in Washington after an overwhelming number of so-called "Heartland” voters pulled the lever to legitimize this type of hatred with their votes on November 8th:
“Donald Trump’s campaign was the first step towards identity politics in the United States,” cheered Richard Spencer, the president of the National Policy Institute, an arm of the alt-right, at an afternoon press conference. “…I do think we have a psychic connection, a deeper connection with Donald Trump, in a way we simply do not have with most Republicans.”
The digital white supremacists known as the “alt-right’ held a victory party Saturday on Pennsylvania Avenue, a few blocks from Trump’s hotel, to celebrate Americans’ embrace of racism and anti-Semitism. Spencer assures us that people of color in America can now look forward to a lifetime of looking over their shoulder for an approaching lynch mob:
“The alt-right is here, the alt-right is not going anywhere, the alt-right is going to change the world. And you all need to pay attention to this.”
The relationship of this movement to Trump himself could not have been any clearer.
For many, immigration was top of mind. When one reporter asked the panelists about the biggest priority for pro-Trump alt-righters, the audience burst into chants of “build the wall!” One man jumped up from his seat, shaking his fists as he roared the slogan that was a fixture at Trump campaign rallies. And reporters were greeted by a “Make America Great Again” hat perched on the press sign-in table
Interestingly, Spencer strayed from race issues and offered his views which appeared to extol the virtues of sexual assault in a post-Trumpian environment (perhaps foreshadowing the birth of yet another Trump constituency, would-be rapists):
Spencer doubled down on his defense of Trump’s comments, recorded by Access Hollywood, on which the president-elect could be heard bragging about sexual assault.
“Yes, women, deep down, do want to be taken by a strong man,” Spencer said, though added he wasn’t advocating harassment. “I’ve looked at a lot of romance novels women read. I’ve noticed a distinct pattern.”
It’s not clear whether Trump will elevate Spencer to a policy-making post in his Administration, but he appears to be a logical choice.
As bad as Trump has shown himself willing to be, he wouldn’t be where he is right now without the support of “ordinary Americans.” Still, you have to wonder what kind of parents produced these specimens, photographed here celebrating Trump’s win at the “alt-right” gala:
So sad that this country could fall so low, so quickly.
