Hey folks,
I’m a long time political junkie, and a long time lurker on this site. I’ve been a passionate follower of politics since the G.W. Bush administration. I vote, I attend city council meetings, I donate to campaigns on occasion. One thing I keep hearing from Obama and others is the importance of “getting involved”. I really want to! But the biggest stumbling block for me is, what exactly do I do?
I know I’m not alone in this. I have a lot of friends who are feeling the desire to act, to get more involved, to stand up to Trump and to fix our democracy, but many of us become stalled on the very first step: where to start? Beyond complaining on social media, I’m not sure what concrete actions I should be taking.
I think it would be great if leaders and activists in the party could spell out more concretely what ordinary people like myself should be doing. I know there are a lot of people out there who have tremendous experience in how to organize, but I’m worried that they don’t understand that for novices like us, it is not obvious where to even start. I wish they would provide ordinary people like myself with more concrete guidance on what to do.
I have the will and the energy, but I’m looking for leadership. I think I’m not alone!
