Tired of hearing people say "if only it had been Bernie”? Sorry, but get used to it. It's a factual point to make and an important lesson to learn for the future. The DNC screwed this up royally and it's damn important that they understand why.
Even if Trump kept every single vote he got (not likely), Bernie would have gained more than enough extra votes to win MI, WI, PA, and probably FL, giving Dems an electoral landslide. It's safe to estimate that as many as two or three million disenchanted progressives and millennials who would have voted for Bernie stayed home because of their distaste for the uninspiring establishment insider the Democrats offered them.
As for the argument that Republicans & corporate media would have demonized him as a socialist, that actually would have worked in his favor! It would have opened up the opportunity to have a substantive debate about economic reality and the utter failure of supply-side "free-market" policies, instead of the focus being on emails and pay-to-play corruption and all of Clinton's other baggage.
But, you may ask, then why couldn't Bernie beat Hillary in the primaries? The main reason is because in many, if not most, states independents weren't allowed to vote in the Dem primaries. And a huge chunk of Bernie's support was from registered Independents. (I personally had Bernie-supporting friends coming back from the polls telling me they weren't allowed to vote because they weren't registered as Democrats)
So shout it from the rooftops! Bernie absolutely would have beaten Trump, and we need to keep repeating this fact to the Democratic establishment until it finally sinks in and they admit it.
