On December 4, Pamela Engel at Business Insider wrote that d$ckhead could erase Obama’s ‘legacy’ almost as soon as he takes office. Well! ::churchladyvoice:: Isn’t that special!
The Affordable Care Act, the Iran nuclear deal, attacks on Social Security and Medicare … All, I admit, with big elements of vulnerability for an incompetent like Trump. The opportunity to stack the Supreme Court for the next several decades … Will that be it, then? Obama erased from the historic record?

I don’t think any of us are bullish on what this change is going to mean. Republicans will do all the damage they can to everything they can to try to tarnish our President, to try to undermine his hard work, his legacy.
And, yet … and, yet … I don’t think they will find it as easy to accomplish as they may think right now. For one thing, the measure of his legacy won’t be limited to the signature achievements cited in the piece. Much of his lasting impact will be found in the seeds he has planted, seeds that they may be able to coax into short-term dormancy, but never kill.
President Obama has set new standards for class and integrity in office, new standards for work ethic, for cooperation, for absence of scandal, for making great choices in PEOPLE. But his greater seeds involve a spirit of caring, of giving, of respecting others. Of SERVING. The desire to see EVERY American protected with insurance isn’t a casual thing, and it isn’t a thing that will just ‘go away’ if its legislative underpinning is stripped away.
The good stories from Obamacare have found some traction in our culture, but not, I think, like the stories of tragedy that will follow aspects of its demise. For all their attempts to repeal it, Republicans haven’t faced any accountability. But that will change, dramatically so, once the damage begins to be felt.
And Obamacare will be as a footnote to what will happen if they succeed in undermining Social Security and Medicare. A high percentage of their voters come from the most severely affected demographic. Not particularly high information voters, they will feel completely blind-sided by the betrayal, with few options for making up the shortfall that Republicans steal from them. I think it would be a move Republicans would regret for decades, if they go that route, as they’ve threatened to. I wouldn’t mind seeing the consequences of that if it did not mean that so many would suffer so severely to learn the lesson.
But the hardest legacy element they will encounter will be the sheer and staggering CONTRAST. Between an adult and an adolescent. Between a qualified man and a totally unqualified one. Between a man that respects others and a man that cares only for himself. Between a man that made quality, thoughtful decisions and choices and a man that ‘flies by the seat of his pants.’ By a man with a terrific social energy and one devoid of humanity. Even those who followed the lead of FauxNews and hated President Obama will eventually see him in a new light, and be forced to admit that his administration represented a better era, and era of far superior GREATNESS. As the new person’s most miserably chosen adjective comes home to roost.

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.

This comment by Philly76 describes a motivating element for voters jealous about benefit allocation to minorities they disapprove of.

Is this diary-length comment by AfricanLived, with a detailed history of the Congress Obama had to work with early in his administration. (Ed. note: this is the kind of comment I most love to find and include in Top Comments. Please let AfricanLived know about it! Very well done!) In biancardi’s rec-list diary about Harry Reid and Comey.
