An important reminder: The GOP “results” we've been reporting all night (and that everyone focuses on) are really just a straw poll. After votes are counted, only then does each precinct site pick delegates to the county conventions. Typically, only the hardest-core caucus-goers stick around for that part of the night, which is why Ron Paul was able to win most of Iowa’s delegates even though he came in third place. I'm willing to bet that Cruz’s supporters are much more likely to participate in the delegation selection process than Trump’s.
