I believe this was Hillary’s shining moment in last night’s debate.
We are not a single-issue country and never have been. This is a complex country and when she spoke to the real human rights barriers our country faces, she was spot on.
These myriad of issues can't be cured by saying that reforming Wall Street to right income equality will make them go away. History has proven this isn't the case.
If tackling income inequality alone would solve these issues, that would be a first. This country has gone through many periods of good economic growth and those periods of prosperity didn't solve the barriers of racism, sexism, LGBT rights, human rights, etc. We still face these barriers as of today and the forces who want to turn back the clock on all of the progress we’ve made.
Hillary is right. The job of being President is way too complex to believe that the issues of human rights will go away, because of a great economy. It's much more complicated than that and history has proven that.
Just ask John Lewis, who’s still fighting today to ensure equal rights for all.
