Should President Obama nominate someone? Of course he should, it’s his duty, but whom? Bingo! who do we need on the supreme court? do we need another centrist, we have those, so what do we need? We’re not going to get another Scalia, we probably don’t want another Scalia. but now, it’s not just who we may want, but whom we can actually get.
OK, so who could get through the nomination process and be confirmed? what kind of jurist? We have a lot important nation defining stuff coming up, immigration again, abortion again, I just did a search, and there’s a ton of stuff, that was supposed to get ruled on but will they go forward with 8? don’t know, they’ll probably talk it out and see what they as 8 can still decide, or what they could all let the lower court ruling stand etc. or just what they can put off. Frankly I’m not sure how all that will work.
But back to who can get through this nomination process, some kind of moderate? is that what we want?, a bunch of middle of the road decisions that never really decide anything and the issues keep returning? the more I go on I realize it may be best letting the electorate vote for the new president to appoint this new justice, to get that fresh read on the American electorate about what kind of country we want and then move along with that.
Except, of course, it’s doubtful we’ll get an undivided government, right now my guess is the republicans will take over the white house but lose at least the senate. Which will put us right back here where we are. So, to be responsible, we need to do this USSC nomination now, because now is when it came up, let the process play out as best it can and we live with it, till of course, the next vacancy, which won’t be long and we’re right back here again.
God bless America, and may god be with Scalia family at this time.
