Robert Reich says his “mole in the White House tells me Obama will nominate 46-year-old Judge Sri Srinivasan, an Indian-American” judge on the D.C. Circuit, to replace Scalia. Is this someone Kossacks would be happy with? Or would it be better to wait for Hillary or Bernie to nominate someone more liberal who would be confirmed by a 2017 Democrat-majority Senate, if necessary using the nuclear option?
Srinivasan seems to be, at best, a moderate. The liberal Constitutional Accountability Center calls him “unquestionably brilliant” but acknowledges that Srinivasan’s record “is not progressive-forward; it is as non-ideological as you can find.” Mother Jones cites several of his pro-big business actions (including his defense of Enron’s Jeffrey Skilling) and notes liberals can't be sure that Srinivasan actually shares their views. Ted Cruz calls Judge Srinivasan "a long-standing friend" who did a "very fine job" in answering the committee's questions at his confirmation hearing.
Hard to feel comfortable with a friend of Ted Cruz as the nominee. But if President Obama trusts him, that’s good for me.
Any thoughts?
