It seems likely that Hillary will win the nomination, and that will please a lot of people here. And if she does win the nomination, the “Kossaks” must try to get her elected. Were a Republican win the White House, given all their candidates positions on climate change, the country (and the world) will certainly be in a very bad state. For survival, a Democrat must win the election.
But look at what happens when she wins. It seems extremely likely that the Republican base will be quite energized to come out to vote against her, and I cannot predict the rest of the electorate, but we should not be surprised if the Republicans hold their majorities in both the Senate and the House. So any hope for effective government would be gone, since they appear to hate her more than Obama (which is not easy). Moreover the Clinton apparatus in the Democratic party will remain. This is the group that since the 2008 election, when the people rejected the Republicans, the Democrats have lost big. The House, Senate, and most states fell under Republican control, and they will not give it up, they will only expand. Diaries here have pointed out that the Democratic bench is in bad shape, due mostly to party leaders erroneous policies and counterproductive tactics. This will only get worse. Republicans make sure, when they win control of an area, to to do whatever is needed to keep control. IMNSOHO, Hillary Clinton will be the last Democratic president for a long time.
Now Sanders, if he were to win the nomination, might loose in the General, it is true, but again, IMNSOHO, he has a better chance to win than Clinton (but you may of course not agree). But if he were to win the nomination, the campaign in the general would also be quite intense. But even here there is a chance for some revitalization of the party. He is attracting young people, who the party badly needs. There are even some House candidates supporting him. And were he to win, he would certainly inspire, and in addition, change the leadership and direction of the Democratic party. He might have enough coattails to help the Democrats retake the Senate. He also does have a history of working across party lines to get things done in the legislature.
So I guess you realize that is why I am supporting Bernie. Here is a real chance to change the direction of the Democratic party from its current course of slowly committing suicide. (And I have defiitely left the opening for those who disagree to say that would be doing it quickly instead).
