1. Dr. Andy McGuire is the chairwoman of the Iowa Democratic Party.
2. She called the winner of the Iowa Democratic Caucus’:
….at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Iowa Democratic Party Chairwoman Andy McGuire announced that Clinton had eked out a slim victory, based on results from 1,682 of 1,683 precincts.
3. She called the winner despite that legitimate questions were raised:
Even as Hillary Clinton trumpeted her Iowa win in New Hampshire on Tuesday, aides for Bernie Sanders said the eyelash-thin margin raised questions and called for a review. The chairwoman of the Iowa Democratic Party rejected that notion, saying the results are final.
4. Dr. McGuire announced the final results before the final results were collected and tabulated:
McGuire in her 2:30 a.m. statement said: "Hillary Clinton has been awarded 699.57 state delegate equivalents, Bernie Sanders has been awarded 695.49 state delegate equivalents, Martin O’Malley has been awarded 7.68 state delegate equivalents and uncommitted has been awarded .46 state delegate equivalents. We still have outstanding results in one precinct — Des Moines 42 — which is worth 2.28 state delegate equivalents. We will report that final precinct when we have confirmed those results with the chair."
Team Clinton quickly embraced that news, and flatly stated that nothing could change it.
5. Despite the chaos of the Dem caucus' which included among other problems:
An Indianola precinct that gathered in Hubbell Hall at Simpson College had a discrepancy between the number who checked in, and people counted in the first vote.
“The chair and secretary knew the count was off but proceeded anyway,” said Paige Godden, a reporter for The Record Herald and Indianola Tribune. “We did the final count at least three times. People were very frustrated by the end.”
New voters made up nearly 40% of the caucusgoers — 207 of 521 — at Democratic precinct No. 59 on at Des Moines Central Campus, organizers said. The precinct ran out of voter registration forms and had to print more.
6. Dr. McGuire” is a long time Hillary Clinton Supporter:
-
McGuire’s license plate on her Buick Enclave says “HRC 2016,” as in “Hillary Rodham Clinton.”3 (Source: “Clinton makes just one excruciating’ Iowa mention,” Des Moines Register, 6/11/14) Despite the “Draft Elizabeth Warren” undercurrent, the Iowa Democrats must be more serious about Hillary Clinton to put someone so in the tank for the Clintons like McGuire in charge.
- McGuire was co-chair of Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign in Iowa.6
-
McGuire had Hillary Clinton fundraisers in her home. In 2007, the New York Times reported, “On Friday night, Mrs. Clinton had dinner in Des Moines at the home of a leading Democrat, Andrea McGuire, and was joined by several other influential party members: Mr. Boswell; the state Senate Democratic leader, Michael Gronstal; and Bonnie Campbell, the former state attorney general, among others.” (“Clinton, in Iowa, Vows to ‘Renew the Promise of America,’” New York Times, 1/28/07)

7. Dr. McGuire has worked with Hillary for a long time:
In 2007, McGuire served on Hillary Clinton’s National Council of Civic Leaders as well as the Women’s Leadership Council for Team Hillary in Iowa. After today’s election, McGuire promised to stay neutral in the upcoming Iowa caucuses, but let’s get real. Everyone knows that she is a strong Clinton ally. I would have preferred a state party chair with no known allegiance to a presidential candidate, but there are certainly advantages to having someone close to Hillary in this job. McGuire at the helm increases the chances that Clinton will invest in a strong GOTV during the general election.
I’ve been concerned that Clinton would not spend a lot of money on field in Iowa, because she could easily win 270 electoral votes without Iowa’s six. A well-funded and staffed coordinated campaign will be critically important to holding the Iowa Senate majority in 2016.
