From my friend Matt:
The Republican Debate
There once was a man full of bluster and bellow
that stood center stage with his hair carabello
A salesman sure, this blue-suited fellow
sold us a wall not of stone but marshmallow.
The boy stood beside him close his first shave
Whose story endeared him a certain enclave
Women swoon and a few misbehave
Rattling their chains on the floor of the cave.
Darkness descended [as the suitors drew knives]
even wide-eyed evangelists ran for their lives
A knight sought to calm them and reached for his quiver
No arrows landed to please his forgiver.
Straightening his pose…with eminent domain
He assembled pilgrims still stirring disdain
Sang the old song's conservative refrain
Pleading they continue his familiar reign.
The soft spoken parson shifts as all of us knew
What wasn’t noticed is he took off one shoe
Just then a walrus rolled, and we all looked aside
As he flattened the boy swept up by the tide.
The witnesses gasped as the two became one
No veteran mention made to father or son
A solemn audience circled to see what was done
No speeches were made but a battle begun.
The knight said the prayers so faithful could listen
The blue-suited salesman in silent admission
The parson drew from his own holy book
A promise, a candle, and donor checkbook.
