The mainstream media has often attempted to consolidate Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders into a theme or narrative. They claim that they ‘tap into anger’ or are ‘anti-establishment’. They try to identify a guiding narrative that they both share.
But they are simply missing the point.
The reality is that Hillary Clinton’s supporters have much more in common with Donald Trump’s supporters.
It has to do with the use of two simple object pronouns.
“I” and “We”
Sometimes people cling to strong-self assertive individuals. These are the kinds who constantly talk themselves up.
They are braggards.
They are megalomaniacs.
They seek power and abhor truth.
They rely exclusively on the term “I” vs. the term “we”
This is what Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have in common. Attraction to this personality type is also what their supporters share as well.
