We’ve seen the power of corporate greed and deceit, we’ve seen the lethal consequences of it, in the poisoned environment all around us, in the dying sky above us, in the ravaged earth beneath our feet. We’ve seen the destruction it unleashes, the fracking and mountaintop mining, the ozone depletion and carbon emissions, the species extinction and polar cap melting, the acid in the rain and the death of the oceans.
But all is well. The Greed Machine of the Oligarchy only needs a few minor adjustments. That’s what the corporate politicians have concluded, that’s what they always conclude. The lights of democracy are going out, jobs are disappearing, fascism is pounding at the door and all the clocks are striking thirteen, but it’s nothing a few more free trade agreements can’t fix.
Edith Wharton . . .
Everything seemed strange, ominous and unreal, like the yellow glare that precedes a storm. There were moments when I felt as if I had died, and woken up in an unknown world. And so I had.
Welcome to America, Edith.
Why does America need Bernie Sanders in the White House? This is why . . .
Because corporate media propaganda has never been so pervasive, so relentless, so degrading. Because the political system has never been so corrupt, so unlawful, so immoral, so dehumanizing.
Because the economic system has never been this oppressive, CEO’s have never been this shameless, bankers have never been this psychotic. Because the greed of the One-Percent is out of control, because income inequality is off the charts, because massive voter suppression is escalating, because fascism has come to America, waving the Flag and carrying the Cross.
Because the rule of law is stone cold dead, because the criminal justice system is a travesty, the Patriot Act is an atrocity, and Citizens United is an obscenity.
Because the desecration of journalism is accelerating, because network and cable news programs have become an Orwellian spectacle, because the deceit broadcast every day has never been more blatant.
There’s trillions of dollars for wars and weapons, for the DHS and the NSA, for CENTCOM and the CIA, for illegal occupations and massive surveillance and the militarizing of police, but no
money for schools, no money for teachers, no money for roads or bridges, no money for the wounded and shattered veterans of the weary armies of the Empire.
We can’t protest anything anywhere without being pepper-sprayed and arrested, but a president of this Oligarchy can authorize the torture of human beings and just walk away, a governor of this Oligarchy can poison the water of Flint and just walk away,
the bankers of this Oligarchy can trash the global economy and just walk away, the corporate politicians of this Oligarchy can destroy the Middle Class and just walk away, the police of this Oligarchy can gun us down in the streets and just walk away.
THAT’S why America needs Bernie Sanders in the White House.
THAT’S why he’s going to win this election.
Corporate politicians like Hillary Rodham Clinton are not the solution.
They’re the problem.
How many times have corporate politicians lied to you, America?
How many times have they sent your children off to war?
How many betrayals do you have to see before you hold them accountable?
How many?
The answer isn’t blowing in the wind any more.
It can be heard everywhere Bernie Sanders campaigns, it can be heard in the truth he’s telling about income inequality and social injustice and the poisoning of the earth, it can be heard in the truth he’s telling about the Wall of Oppression all around us and the bricks in that Wall who call themselves congressmen and senators and judges and journalists. It can be seen in the eyes of the American citizens standing in line for hours to vote for him, it can be felt in the hearts of the abandoned and forgotten working people of this country.
Always believe you can change the world.
Because you can.
It’s time to get it done.
Bernie Sanders for President
