The people in charge of the Republican Party don’t like having their ball stolen out from under them.
We know the establishment of the party hates Trump and has now gone public with that hatred, and even gone public with their efforts to stop him.
There are many ways they can exploit the Party rules they themselves wrote to make this happen. One of these I found without too much looking. It’s Rule #32 of The Republican Party. This has to do with the party convention.
RULE NO. 32 - Suspension of Rules : A motion to suspend the rules shall always be in order, but only when made by authority of a majority of the delegates from any state and seconded by a majority of the delegates from each of seven (7) or more other states, severally.
They can suspend ALL the rules of the convention with a vote from the majority of delegates from eight states. Then the people in charge can nominate somebody else.
Can they do this? Hint: Ted Cruz has already won nine states. They can do this. The question then becomes, will they? Which is the worse course of action for them? Pissing off every Trump voter and splitting the party in two? Or letting Trump, the idiot boor misogynist racist fascist authoritarian braggart be their standard bearer? Either way, they are screwed.
(I’m sure there are other loopholes that can be exploited. This was just the first one that I found after a cursory reading.) Fun times in Cleveland ahead.
