After Kos’ post on Bernie and the superdelegates this morning, and his subsequent timeout OPOL for what I thought was a very powerful diary, i am elevating a comment I made to a post, with some edits:
Markos, we get it. You wish the primary were over already. You shine a spotlight on what ever tactics Sanders and his supporters are doing that you don’t like. If you’re devoting equal time to the ways HRC and her supporters have pushed against, bent, or broken the rules in order to support her, it hasn’t been on my radar.
With all respect, you are entitled to your position. However, when you say these things publicly, either here or elsewhere, people will hear them not as the opinion of one individual but as the voice of Daily Kos itself. Whether you intend it or not, your recent statements, taken together, seem to have the effect of encouraging ugliness from Clinton supporters on the website, and leaving many Sanders supporters feeling the need to self-censor.
A few days ago elfling posted this comment in a diary I wrote:
...As for the progressive cause. The cause is best served by activism. It’s Daily Kos’ position that taking over the Democratic Party and harnessing it to our progressive ideals is the most productive way forward. You have to knock on doors and change minds no matter which party your candidate represents. It’s way easier to do that with the party that’s already automatically on ballots and comes with a pile of infrastructure….
A noble goal, Kos. I assume elfling spoke for you when she wrote it. May I hold you to it? And may I ask how your expressing the positions you have taken in the way you have expressed them are helping that cause? Are they helping move the Democratic Party in a progressive direction? Are they helping the cause of progressive goals and ideals? And are they helping this website be a forum where the best ideas can get put forward and be heard?
