I’ve been contributing to DeRay Mckesson’s mayoral campaign in Baltimore, so I get emails from the campaign.
I’m sure most of you already have heard the story about the Baltimore officer hitting a student at school; there’s a video out and it has been covered here.
I’m 61 years old. I remember going to school when there were no metal detectors, no police, none of it. There was also no “zero tolerance” policy where kids ended up suspended or expelled for having a plastic fork or whatnot.
So this is the best we can do, having police officers in schools. It’s the best we can do.
I don’t believe that. I believe we can do better.
Anyway, I signed DeRay’s petition and am passing it along to anyone else who wants to sign.
DeRay says:
Video broke that shows a Baltimore officer assaulting a student in a school, repeatedly hitting the student in the head, kicking him, and swearing.
This is absolutely unacceptable. We send kids to school to learn, to develop and succeed. We don't send them to school to be assaulted by officers. This officer needs to be fired.
Sign our petition and DeRay will make sure your voice is heard.
Sometimes problems seem insurmountable. But one by one, we can change things, we really can.
Hope you’ll sign the petition and while you’re at it, drop a contribution to DeRay’s campaign.
