Young voters across this country are supporting Bernie Sanders because the corrupt political system is a runaway train, going the wrong way on a one-way track, just like the runaway train of the criminal justice system and the runaway train of the corporate capitalist system and the runaway train of the national security state and the runaway train of catastrophic climate change.
All going the wrong way.
On a one-way track.
With blood on the cold steel rails behind them.
Young voters are the future of America, they’re voting for Bernie because they’ve seen enough train wrecks on that Political Establishment Railroad, the train wreck of “welfare reform”, the train wreck of mass incarceration, the train wreck of NAFTA, the train wreck of CAFTA, the train wrecks of the War on Drugs and the War on Terror, the train wrecks of regime change in Iraq and Libya and Syria and Ukraine.
They’ve seen the demonizing of the refugees, the persecution of the poor, the suffering of the innocent; they’ve seen the racist police and the complicit mayors and the blaming of the victims, they’ve seen the blood on the ground and the tear gas in the streets and the shadows of the drones over the Middle East, they’ve seen democracy dying here at home and they know who’s killing it.
They aren’t going to vote for an establishment politician.
They aren’t going to buy a ticket for the next train wreck.
William Burroughs . . .
Millions of young people all over the world are fed up with shallow unworthy authority running on a platform of bullshit.
They’re fed up with the posturing of shallow politicians, they’re fed up with the moral cowardice of unworthy leaders, they’re fed up with the endless deceit of corrupt authority. They don’t believe Donald Trump, they don’t believe Ted Cruz, and they don’t believe Hillary Clinton either.
Ask them why and they’ll tell you why.
Millions of other voters aren’t fed up with the posturing, though. They aren’t fed up with the moral cowardice or the deceit or the damage it inflicts, they’ve been conditioned to it, they’re used to it, they’ve become obedient little voters, they crawl out of the latest train wreck, wipe the blood off their money, and buy a ticket for the next one.
It’s called mindless conformity.
Shirley Jackson wrote a word or two about it in The Lottery.
Pink Floyd warned about it in Comfortably Numb.
Bernie Sanders is running against it all across this country.
Bernie is running against mindless conformity and all who demand it, he’s running against it because it’s the deadliest weapon of mass destruction in all of human history, he’s running against it because it’s lethal and has always been lethal, he’s running against it because it pits race against race, religion against religion, nation against nation, he’s running against it because it always leads to this . . .
The darkness of conflict is all around us, the darkness of greed, the darkness of exploitation, the darkness of racism and ignorance and mindless conformity, but there’s a light out there on the edge of that darkness, it gets closer every time the truth is told, it gets brighter with every vote for Bernie and every primary win and every step closer to the Presidency, it’s the light of justice, it’s the light of equality, it’s the Light of the People, by the People, and for the People, it’s the Light of the future of Humanity, it’s the Light of the World as One . . .
Now I’ve been happy lately,
Thinking about the good things to come,
And I believe it could be,
Something good has begun.
Bernie Sanders for President
