I check out my local newspaper, the Seattle Times, from time to time for late breaking news, updates on local political issues and to see how badly our baseball team is faring. Historically, the paper has a conservative slant and a pro-business orientation. In fairness, the paper did endorse Barack Obama for both presidential cycles.
I was extremely shocked to see them endorse Bernie Sanders for the Democratic primary in addition to John Kasich for the GOP primary. While John Kasich has a horrible track record as Governor of Ohio, he at least seems reasonable when compared to the Cruz, Rubio and tRump. I would argue that he would be the least dangerous of the four as Commander in Chief — which of course is not saying a lot.
Here is a portion of what the paper had to say about Bernie.
He is the only candidate in this race, on either side of the aisle, who has spoken forcefully — and over years — against Wall Street’s willingness to take enormous risks while expecting public bailouts.
We here on the left coast don’t get a lot of love during the primaries but Washington state will caucus on March 26. I see a lot of Bernie bumper stickers and signs on windows in and around Seattle. We had a strong turnout for a Walk For Bernie two weekends ago in downtown Seattle.
My best guess is that Bernie will do quite well in our state perhaps similar to what Barack Obama did in 2008.
