Had John Lennon lived he would have been eligible to convert his green card to a US citizen application in 1981. After Bernie Sanders coming back from a twenty point deficit and the huge victory in Michigan, my first thought this morning was "Who Would John Lennon have supported in the 2016 election?"
Which candidate can restore the values of the Woodstock generation, undo the damage of the conservative movement and inspire goodness in the next generation?
In this field of nominees, who makes you feel like singing?
Which candidate best represents the people?
With the CSN&Y lyrics in my head “And I dreamed I saw the bomber jet planes, riding shotgun in the sky, turning into butterflies, above our nation” I ask “Who is most likely to insure peace for our children?”
Who rallies the crowds and brings us hope?
And who will be looking out for those of us on the bottom?
All we are saying is…
It’s just one word “Imagine.” Imagine where we will be four years from now when the national debate is about free college education and health care for all, when the peoples’ party has been returned to the People and the down ticket Democrats are all about real progress.
This morning I also woke up to the news that George Martin is no longer with us. The news of the death of the “fifth Beatle” made me think back to the time when the Fab Four topped the charts and the values of the Woodstock nation was being formed. That whole generation of peace, love and harmony never once had a chance in American politics. It’s been too long.
Can we remember back that far? One word that is surrounded by so much love.
Two thoughts that still matter…
And with all these years that have passed, present day democrats to the right of the Republicans from the era of the Fab Four, is Bernie our big chance? Can we change that tune?
I witnessed a growing conservative movement my whole life. I get the feeling that with Bernie Sanders at the bully pulpit, I will finally find out what a liberal movement looks like. So I send him as much money as I can and I keep hoping for real change.
