When she’s not filibustering on the floor of the Missouri Senate, trying to protect the civil rights of all, Senator Chappelle-Nadal is doing the work of a state Senator. Before that she was doing the work of a state Representative.
If all goes well she may soon be doing the work of representing Missouri's 1st congressional district in the U.S. House, because she is running for Congress!
If you missed any of the historic filibuster in MO that lasted for 39 hours, you can catch up on it here: www.dailykos.com/… Just scroll till you find it, there are at least 3 diaries by the fabulous Chris Reeves there.
The Republican run MO Senate, in their infinite wisdom thought it was only fair and just to pass an amendment allowing business’s to discriminate against, oh anyone they wanted, I’m sure, but they were targeting LGBT folks.
Eight Democrats took to the floor and held it to prevent the vote. If that isn’t some cool, brave, bold stuff I don’t know what is. I was thrilled to be listening to Senator Chappelle-Nadal filibuster as 3am this morning.
I was even more thrilled to come home tonight and find out that the Senator has joined on as a supporter of 90for90. She’s at the top of their Face Book page right now. Give her some love by “liking” the 90for90 page. You can show her some love by contributing to her campaign here: www.90for90.org/…
Don’t live in MO, so what do you care? I really never get tired of posting this, by Ms. Spent Youth. It was in response to my asking her how to tell a friend in Utah that she should care about what happens in other states:
I'm not sure what to tell your friend, except that we are a UNITED States of America and that all states matter to one another. Also, when we take a look at our contact lists in our smartphones or our emails, we know they comprise people from all over -- not just our own states. Don't we want all our contacts, family members, friends, acquaintances, et al., to be living in a state where justice reigns? Where they have the RIGHT to vote without having to pay $36 for a voter ID? Where they have equal access to quality health care that's affordable? Where do we draw the border lines between equality and inequality, between good schools and just-okay schools? One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, Ms Spent Youth
We are UNITED. I support candidates who support 90for90 because these are the folks who support voter registration and voting. In my world, all these other states are my neighbors and I have to say, it’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood!
