#NeverTrump is facing the possibility of Trump sweeping all of the delegates in New York on Tuesday. Now I don’t think that will happen, if Trump is polling at a bare majority statewide, he will probably miss that mark in at least a handful of congressional districts, meaning his rivals will at least get some delegates. NeverTrump needs more than that though, the closer Trump is to the nomination, the closer they are to complete failure.
Ted Cruz set himself up perfectly to be the Upstate candidate with his “New York values” line that Trump has been exploiting to his own advantage, leaving Kasich as the guy to compete with Trump in NYC and its suburbs. But that’s not how the race has played out. Instead, Cruz went to NYC at the outset and faced ridicule, then left for a while for some reason, then came Upstate for a perfunctory tour. If Cruz were the savvy political player he portrays himself as, he would have doubled down on “New York values” and campaigned all over the rural areas of the state for the last two weeks, while giving space for the numerous moderate Republican Kasich supporters Upstate. He did nothing of the sort. And if Kasich knew what he was doing, he would have ignored Cruz and focused on Trump in the NYC media market to try and bring his margins down, with a stop or two Upstate to rally the moderates up here. Instead, he’s been touring Upstate and attacking Cruz on the air. I only give this advice because the election is in two days and won’t really matter at this point. What a couple of incompetent morons.
