There I said it. Not ashamed of it either. It’s good rhetoric. It’s catchy. He’s fun. Bernie Sander is a fun guy and even more fun if you eat fungi and listen to him. Bernie says you can have all the candy you want and you won’t get fat and you won’t even have to pay for it. Nice. I like candy. Especially free candy!
It seems to me the predicate of Bernie Sanders campaign is that if only Obama had been more liberal he could have got more done. Is this correct? Are Bernie Sanders supporters really saying Obama was too conservative to convince Republicans in congress to pass a Highway Bill for example? Obama was not liberal enough to pass infrastructure projects? Or Immigration reform? If only he had been more liberal all of these things would have passed? That darn Obama was just too conservative after Sandy Hook to pass meaningful gun legislation. The jerk.
I wish Bernie Sanders would tie his rhetoric to actual position papers with legislative strategy attached. I think he is taking my party for a ride to stroke his own ego. He wasn’t even a Democrat until recently. He has been a cocktail party gadfly for decades. I actually welcome his critique of many of the ills of Capitalism — I just wish he would point his anger towards Republicans and not Hillary Clinton. But Bernie Sander is not a Democrat. He is Bernie Sanders, independent Democratic Socialist, safe in Vermont no matter what. If he runs and loses a national election and pubs pick up more Senate seats and more State Houses so what?? He will have made his point and it all will have been worth it. He can always pop open a pint of Wavy Gravy and call Ed Schultz and shake his fist at more Democrats.
I recall, not so long ago, another politician complained that the Democrats were not liberal enough. He ran for President and got a lot of votes but did not win. His name was Ralph Nader and he effectively elected George W Bush (actually it was the short-sighted-always contrarian-never pragmatic-establishment hating-Democrats are the same as Republicans wing of my party, but hey, I get it, Nader tells it like it is man). This time if Democrats revert back to their NDM strategy it could mean electing Donald Trump. What could go wrong???
One more thing...if all you Bernie Sanders supporters did not show up in 2010 and 2014...you know when it’s wasn’t all about getting free non-fattening candy but WAS about controlling congress, your state houses, legislative district lines, voters id laws, you know...the boring stuff that is pretty much what 99% of governing is about, why should I trust you now? Do you really care about change. The slow, tedious, boring, pragmatic change that is actually how government works?
Wait...don’t answer...free candy. Got it.
