The electorate is angry. Every two years, I hear from a fair number of friends, connections and acquaintances that it is time to vote out all members of Congress who are running for reelection, because they are out of touch with America. Two years later, they will want to vote out the next batch of incumbents.
At what point does it occur to these guys that their approach to civic participation isn't working? Then again, we tend not to think effectively when we're angry. Stephanie Cegielski was angry. In fact, she was so angry that she joined the Trump campaign as an advisor. That, my friends, is your brain on anger.
I understand that people are angry about the state of affairs in our country, be it politics, the economy, or whatever. I just don't care. If people are constantly angry, they haven't taken the time to figure out why they're angry, what they're angry about nor what they want done about it. When it comes to debating which policies are best for our country going forward, they are about as useful as a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest.
So I ask those who are often reacting out of anger (or fear, for that matter) to stop, think about what’s making you angry, and determine what you want to happen. Until you’re ready to do that, STFU because I don’t want to hear it.
