But I don’t think this is what he had in mind:
Bernie Sanders is trying to persuade Democratic Party superdelegates backing Hillary Clinton to flip their allegiance as a last-ditch bid for the nomination, but one Sanders supporter is going the other way.
Emmett Hansen II, the Democratic National Committeeman for the U.S. Virgin Islands, decided to shift his support to Clinton after a weekend briefing on her plans for U.S. territories that followed months of dissatisfaction with Sanders’ lack of concrete positions.
His reasons go right to the heart of Clinton's critique of the Sanders campaign. Hansen said that while he’s a believer in sweeping change, he also wants to get things done.
“There are no more windmills to joust against and no more mountains to climb,” said Hansen, a native of St. Croix who was on the Sanders campaign's list of publicly committed superdelegate supporters. “It comes down to one thing: what’s best for the Virgin Islands, to be fully incorporated into the United States.”
Hansen is the first Sanders superdelegate to publicly shift his support to Clinton.
NOTE: Yeah, the headline is kind of a cheap shot, but I still have a bit of an axe to grind with those who tore me to shreds back in January/February, not because I oppose moving towards single payer (I continue to do so) but because I was deeply concerned about the lack of details and planning for a laundry list of logistical, legal and political issues surrounding the plan.
It’s exactly that lack of detail which is what this former Bernie-supporting SD is citing as his reason for making the switch.
Besides, as I noted in the single payer-related diary I just posted a little while ago, after the ugliness displayed by certain Bernie supporters in Nevada over the past few days, I’ve honestly stopped caring about whether I hurt their feelings.
UPDATE: TO CLARIFY THE ABOVE: Note that I specified that I’ve stopped caring about whether I hurt “certain Bernie supporters” feelings...namely, those who’ve displayed the ugly behavior, not just towards myself but towards many, many others, culminating in the Nevada debacle.
MOST Bernie supporters are fine, reasonable people. Several of those who attacked me back in January/February accused me of having a thin skin. Reasonable people will take the snarky, tongue-in-cheek headline in stride. If it really infuriates you, then that says more about you than me.
