Is the existential awfulness of a pending Bernie loss getting you down? The cure may be a bit of perspective. Progress has happened in the past and it will happen in the future. Maybe a bit slower without President Bern, but who can really say? Hillary might get a few things done too if she can get a good congress. I’d like to make the simple point that while we cannot predict the future, both candidates are going to push the ball forward. Look at the really remarkable progress which has happened over the last few years, all of which has happened without either Bernie or Hillary! (Click on the * links to see what I’m talking about).
- LGBT rights have been won and affirmed at the highest levels of government * *
- Obamacare has reduced the number of uninsured to below 10% *
- Significant tax increase on the 1% *
- Literacy, education, incomes and life expectancy skyrocketing world wide * * * *
- Slowing of runaway population growth in all but a few countries *
- Global wars and battle deaths are at historic lows *
- A truly functional Paris climate change accord * *
- Renewable energy is now cheaper than coal and closing natural gas * *
- Electric vehicles set to take over the roads with dramatic reduction of CO2, oil and pollution *
- Eradication or near eradication of multiple diseases worldwide *
- Widespread decriminalization of marijuana and other drugs * *
- Black-Lives-Matter impact *
- Scalia is dead (sometimes we get lucky) *
- Republicans in disarray *
- Successful minimum wage experiments *
- California is becoming a model for a successful progressive state *
- Economy is doing well *
- 8 years of decreasing unemployment *
- Below target inflation *
Thats not to say its all rosy, there is a lot of work to do. None of the trends above are complete. I am however suggesting that this is not about a couple of personalities, it’s a collective force and you are part of it. Your thoughts, conversations and votes really do work....
