Let's check in on presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's new efforts to become more prezidental. Today brought a realization from Donald that this tax return business wasn't going to be an easy thing to dodge, it being an important safety check in determining America isn't electing a total and complete crook to run things, and as such Trump is softening his previous objections to the uncomfortable tradition.
Does that mean he'll be releasing his tax returns? Ha! Not on your life. He's just released a new not-terribly-accurate-seeming document claiming he's worth Ten Billionty Dollaroos and as far has he's concerned, that’s all you need to know.
But it does mean he's going to make sure all of his potential vice presidential nominees show their tax returns. Specifically, to him.
Donald Trump's campaign is asking potential running mates to submit their tax returns as part of the presumptive GOP presidential nominee's vetting process, according to NBC News.
The Trump campaign said the request to see the returns as part of the vetting process is "normal," MSNBC reported Wednesday afternoon.
This may be the wrong time for the Trump campaign to start talking about vetting candidates via their tax returns, but a source from Trump's camp explained to NBC's Katy Tur why this is different.
VP hopefuls *will* have to hand over their tax returns to the campaign. "That's normal." I asked if this was a bit hypocritical, considering Trump won't release his?
"Trump's not running for Vice President," the source countered.
Touché.
And so Donald trundles merrily on toward the general election. He’s got this—no worries.
