I really have to disagree with the Sanders argument that Independents should be given equal access to the democratic primaries as democrats. It is an oxymoron. If you want to be an independent, then be one… you can’t vote for Regan or Bush and then think you deserve the same voice in choosing the leader of the democratic party as people who have voted democrats for the past 50 years. It makes NO SENSE. Why should white independents have as much a say in our party as its most loyal base: African Americans?
There are reasons why foreigners can’t vote for the American president even though the American presidents affect the rest of the world. Membership to a tribe, group or association matters.
We should allow independents to switch to dems up to 1 month prior to their primaries but that’s it.
Switching the registration “the day of” is bad too. Remember Rush Limbaugh’s Operation Chaos in OH back in 2008? No Bueno!
Finally, we should NEVER again let a Trojan horse run as a democrat just for “the publicity”. If Sanders had run as a 3rd party, he would have never beneficiated from the media desperate need for a “real race” in the dems primary. He would be as blacked out as all the other 3rd run.
And we are now paying for it with someone who has 0 allegiance for the democratic party and who’s willing to burn down the house because he lost.
Hillary was a party-person. That’s why she stop attacking the probable nominee in the 1st week of May after losing NC despite running a much closer race than Sanders ever did this cycle. When she lost, she became the ultimate good soldier. She campaigned for Obama and join his administration. She fell in line.
THIS IS NOT BERNIE SANDERS. Despite being assured to lose, he keeps trashing her and throwing barbs at Hillary, calling her “The lesser of 2 evils” today on CNN. He has decided to campaign against the democratic party in his victory speech after Oregon, against the democratic elected officials on the debate stage in NY, campaign against democratic allies such as Planned Parenthood, HRC by calling them establishment…. He’s got the biggest spotlight in his political life and he decides to use his time in the lime light trashing our party as corrupt instead of focusing his fire on the repugs. He’s suing our party instead of suing the repugs. He spends more time attacking our DNC chairwoman than he does attacking Reince Priebus.
You shouldn’t be allowed to run for the democratic nomination unless you have been a registered democrats for at least 1 presidential cycle. I don’t think it’s too much to ask that for our leader to have some skin in the game and to have paid some kind of dues.
