He spends three hours a day, five days a week spewing Republican extremist propaganda and vitriol. So, when the King of Hate Radio gets tongue-tied, it’s rare and quite entertaining.
Media Matters captured Limbaugh mincing his words to answer a question about the hurt FlushRush has put on him and how it’s keeping him from discussing the price of a future contact, if one exists. The caller obviously caught Limbaugh off guard and I’ve never heard El Rushbo respond quite this way. Usually, he cuts off a caller that crosses him (whom I’m sure he immediately muted after the caller uttered the words, “FlushRush got you bad.”). But the shock jock seems genuinely stumped and after 12 seconds “um, uh, well…,” then word-flopping, he ended up on Clinton’s “scandals” — something he’s a pro at creating and perpetuating. He’s clearly off his game, no mojo to be found in the fluster.
Here’s the text from the show followed by Media Matters’ audio.
RUSH LIMBAUGH (HOST): Mike in Washington D.C. let's get started on the phones here. Great to have you here sir. Hello.
MIKE STARK: Hey Rush, just one second here, you caught me in the library and I didn't think you were going to get through this hour. Ok I'm good I'm outside. Sorry, I apologize. I wanted to say that I'm reminded so much of the 90's after this IG report. You know there are a lot of good reasons people wouldn't want to cooperate that have nothing to do with guilt or innocence. Look at all the people in the 90's that were bankrupted over legal fees. The cheapest way to avoid that, is to say nothing to the prosecutors, they don't tell you what they're investigating. You know knowledge of the law is no excuse. The cheapest thing to do is to just say nothing. I mean this is kind of like you not announcing the price of your next contract is a tacit admission that Flush Rush got you bad man.
LIMBAUGH: (Uh, well, bibitybobityboo, hmm, gulp...) I gather what you are talking about here is the -- back to the Clinton scandals in the 90's. I guess you are talking about tort reform somewhere in there.
Here is the audio:
Perhaps Rush Limbaugh doesn’t want to announce the price of his next contract for several reasons. First, he may not have one at all. His parent companie iHeart and Cumulus are going under financially and/or going bankrupt. His predominant audience is now over 65. Sponsors/advertisers won’t go near his toxic show so talk radio is costing the radio industry millions income, he’s scores of big and little radio stations, his ratings are low and he’s just bad business. Other than that, I can’t imagine why he’s not talking about future contracts.
Thanks to the many activists/volunteers and concerned consumers who made this happen — and the “free market” when it works for the people:
