Sanders Talks With Colbert
Bernie Sanders explained to Stephen Colbert on Thursday’s Late Show why he’s not dropping out of the presidential race and shared some candid thoughts on — who else? — Donald Trump.
“I’m very good at arithmetic,” he told the host, adding that he understands that Hillary Clinton has more delegates heading into the convention, but “what we’re doing now is marshaling our resources” to make sure that “we defeat Donald Trump and we defeat him badly,” and to continue his political revolution.
“We want our 12 million supporters to be heard,” Sanders stressed.
When Colbert told him that Trump is out of the country visiting Scotland now, Sanders quipped, “Oh, checking on his golf courses?”
The Democratic candidate, who gave the speech called “Where We Go From Here” in New York earlier that day, added that he will never give up on the fight, though his campaign is currently talking to Clinton’s about mutual goals (one of which being beating Trump at the general election).
Colbert asked Sanders if he had a message to his supporters, but the candidate said simply that “My supporters are smart enough to know that we do not want a bigot to become the president of the United States of America.”

Sanders at Latino Conference Denounces Trump’s Bigotry
WASHINGTON – Addressing a Latino leaders’ conference, Sen. Bernie Sanders on Thursday denounced the “bigotry” of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
“I had hoped and I think most Americans had hoped that by the year 2016 we would be beyond having candidates make bigotry the cornerstone of their campaigns,” Sanders told the annual convention of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials.
Sanders said Americans will not put in the White House a candidate who “insults” Mexicans, Muslims, African-Americans and others. “Our country needs somebody who brings us together, not divides us up,” the Vermont senator said of Trump, who favors building a Mexican border wall and a ban on Muslim immigration.

In calling for immigration reforms that unite families, Sanders backed executive action to protect “Dreamers,” the young undocumented immigrants who were brought to this country as children. He supported providing Temporary Protected Status to keep families and children from being detained or deported to Central America. He called for an end to private prisons and detention centers and for a re-evaluation of job-killing trade policies like the North American Free Trade Agreement.
In addition to his call for comprehensive immigration reform, Sanders argued for steps to boost wages, rebuild the disappearing middle class, end the rigged economy and fix a broken criminal justice system that disproportionately targets Latinos and blacks.
He also vowed to fight Republicans’ attempt to solve the debt crisis in Puerto Rico by closing schools, cutting pensions and abolishing the minimum wage. He called it “grossly immoral” to reward Wall Street speculators and punish the people of Puerto Rico.

Sanders Statement on Supreme Court Immigration Case
PRESS RELEASE June 23, 2016
WILMINGTON, Del. – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders issued the following statement on Thursday after the Supreme Court announced that it had deadlocked in a case challenging President Barack Obama’s plan to shield millions of immigrants from deportation:
“Senate Republicans must stop playing politics and confirm a ninth justice to the Supreme Court.
“Today’s deadlocked immigration ruling means that more than 4 million aspiring Americans in the United States will be left waiting for much-needed answers to our broken immigration system. We cannot let their future, and the future of so many more vulnerable people, fall into the bigoted hands of Donald Trump.
“We must ensure that millions of families are no longer separated by unjust deportations. We must stop the raids, decouple local law enforcement from immigration enforcement, end family detention and close down private detention centers that currently house thousands of immigrants.”

‘Never ever lose your sense of outrage,’ Bernie Sanders tells New York crowd
Sen. Bernie Sanders vowed Thursday to continue his fight to transform the Democratic Party and the nation, saying political campaigns come and go, but “political and social revolutions continue.”
“Our goal from day one has been transform this nation,” the Vermont senator said in a speech at The Town Hall performance venue in New York City. “And that is the fight we are going to continue.”
Sanders praised the union movement, railed against poverty around the county, and warned his followers of the dangers of complacency.
"We cannot allow ourselves to become used to the fact that we have hundreds of thousands of children in this country who are homeless," he said to cheers of "Bernie! Bernie!" and "Run Bernie, run!"
"Never ever lose your sense of outrage," Sanders implored the approximately 1,250 supporters who attended the speech.
Bernie Sanders: Here’s What We Want
As we head toward the Democratic National Convention, I often hear the question, “What does Bernie want?” Wrong question. The right question is what the 12 million Americans who voted for a political revolution want.
And the answer is: They want real change in this country, they want it now and they are prepared to take on the political cowardice and powerful special interests which have prevented that change from happening.
They understand that the United States is the richest country in the history of the world, and that new technology and innovation make us wealthier every day. What they don’t understand is why the middle class continues to decline, 47 million of us live in poverty and many Americans are forced to work two or three jobs just to cobble together the income they need to survive.
What do we want? We want an economy that is not based on uncontrollable greed, monopolistic practices and illegal behavior. We want an economy that protects the human needs and dignity of all people — children, the elderly, the sick, working people and the poor. We want an economic and political system that works for all of us, not one in which almost all new wealth and power rests with a handful of billionaire families. [...]
