After my last article, which raised concerns about the high number of SPAM complaints against the Trump campaign on Twitter, and pointed out that ~20% of visits to its fundraising site were to an “unsubscribe” subdomain, others weighed in. Politico reported that “High spam rate hampers first Trump fundraising email” while AdAge reported that “Trump's First Fundraising Email Had a 60% Spam Rate”. I even reached out directly to e-mail delivery expert Return Path for comment, and got a reply:
Based on the data, we surmise that Trump is likely buying lists, and he has a high spam complaint rate
So, yes, the data suggests that Trump sent SPAM (unsolicited e-mails to bought lists)! One might think that the Trump campaign would stop sending SPAM after suffering poor e-mail deliverability and being called out for their conduct. However, the proliferation of new SPAM complaints on Twitter suggest that the Trump campaign may be continuing to send SPAM as recently as this hour (5PM ET on 6/24):
