I’ve been saving this one up since April, when it became clear to anyone who wasn’t indoctrinated into the “Feel the Bern” cult that there was no way Bernie Sanders was going to get the Democrat nomination. See, unlike my fellow Hill-bots (or shills, or vagina voters, or whores, or whatever the Berners are calling us this week) I didn’t jump on the #DropOutBernie bandwagon. I figured that if he needed the entire country to vote before he realized he was done, so be it. Well, now we can officially mark our calendars. On this date, June 6, 2016 Hillary Clinton became the first woman to clinch a major party nomination for President of the United States. And with that Liberal America has effectively told Bernie in one very loud voice, “We’re just not into you.”
Bernie Sanders has sworn to stay in the race until July, vowing a “contested convention”…
(From Boomberg News — 6/4/16...)
Bernie Sanders vowed to soldier on to a "contested" Democratic National Convention, despite projections that Hillary Clinton will reach the 2,383 delegates necessary for the party's nomination after polls close in New Jersey on Tuesday.
At a press conference in Los Angeles on Saturday, the Vermont senator said media projections expected to dub Clinton the presumptive nominee are "simply not accurate" because they include superdelegates -- elected officials and party leaders who will not cast their votes until the convention in Philadelphia in July. Superdelegates back Clinton by a wide margin, but Sanders hopes he can get them to defect.
Why, Bernie? Why? Do you honestly think you can flip 800+ delegates (including superdelegates) to your side in less than a month? You spent the better part of your political life trashing these, as you call them, “establishment" Democrats. Now you think they're going to come over to your side if you just say "pretty please" now that you need them? Newsflash, Bernie. THAT. IS. NOT. GOING. TO. HAPPEN.
Or perhaps you think your cult tear-assing through South Philly throwing tantrums (and chairs) and causing drama is going to somehow convince everyone to change their mind and support you. Sorry, but the only thing that will get them is an old fashioned, Rizzo-era Philly PD beat-down.
Or maybe your “Bernie or Bust” crew threatening to vote for Trump if we’re not nice to them will convince the DNC to give you the nomination.
Excuse me for a second while I look around for all of the f-cks I give…
Bernie Sanders did not lose (notice I’m no longer using future tense) because of voter disenfranchisement, or because Hillary (or Bill) cheated, or because the DNC rigged the contest, or because of some other vast cosmic conspiracy. There is only ONE reason that Bernie Sanders lost the Democrat nomination for President.
More people have more faith in Hillary Clinton’s ability to lead the country than they do in Bernie Sanders’
That’s it. That’s all of it. Berners can cry and whine all they want, but the votes, the delegates, and the math make it clear that Hillary is the one that we Democrats want to represent us. It’s really sad, actually, that Bernie should go down in such ignominy. Because his ideas, however far-fetched and off the wall, were actually something that many Americans could get behind. And he did succeed in bringing more progressive issues to the forefront of the primary, and (whether we want to admit it or not) he forced Hillary to have to answer them. But unfortunately, like a 21st century Citizen Kane, he let all of the adulation go to his head and his so-called “revolution” became less about his ideas, and more about him. The nomination was not so much something he needed to earn, but something he and his followers felt was owed to him. He could have had a significant influence on the direction of the Democratic party even in losing. But now history will see him as nothing more than another fringe candidate, much on the order of Nader or LaRouche, who has overstayed his welcome and now needs to be kicked unceremoniously to the curb.
Mr. Sanders, for the sake of your message and whatever credibility you have left, please heed the following advice, courtesy of one Oliver Cromwell (h/t to a Keith Olbermann Special Comment)...
You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go.
If the above is to complex for your understanding, Mr. Sanders, here’s something more plain…
