We do it by helping Corey Foister in the Ohio 8th Special Election. We elect him to John Boehner's empty seat. Is it doable? Sure. In the primary, the tea party Republican who ran, gosh, I can’t remember his name, got 43,000 votes. Corey Foister, the Democratic candidate got 33,000 votes.
Now, some would argue that, well, sure, whatever his face, got 43,000 votes but there were at least eleventy-five other Republicans running, who got a total of 130,000 votes when counted altogether.
They would also add that this is a strong Republican area, R+ 15. That’s true. Can’t argue with that. What is also true is that this is a SPECIAL ELECTION. A ton of those 130,000 Republican voters aren’t even going to show up to vote.
Why should they? They think their candidate has got this in the bag. He’s got the numbers and money. Special Elections are notorious for having low voter turnout. So, all Corey needs to do is get a few thousand extra Democrats to show up to vote. There is the hopey changey thing about this; a saying:
“If there is nothing to lose by trying, and everything to gain, then by all means, try.”
Here is something else very interesting to take into account, Corey has the support of the Ohio Democratic Party and they have been working hard to get him elected. They are canvassing door to door and phone banking like you wouldn’t believe. In a genius move, they’ve enlisted the help of senior citizens and those folks are making 500 calls a day.
What else have the Democrats got going for them? They have a really good candidate in Corey Foister. He’s not a yellow dog Dem at all, he’s very progressive, I just needed something other than “the fear of God” to write in the title. Corey has a very compelling story also. Oh yeah, and he’s been a member here since, like, 2007.
There has been a lot written about him at DK:

There are some really great comments in these diaries too. Thoughtful, helpful, and sometimes very funny!
By now, you’re probably wondering what we can do to help at this late date, the Special Election is today. Well today’s not over yet!
~You can send an email to everyone you know and ask them to email everyone they know, in hopes of reaching people in Ohio. Don’t assume you don’t know anyone in Ohio. There aren’t really 6 degrees of separation, I bet there are only 3 at most.
~Like Corey’s Facebook page.
~Like the part of the 90for90 Facebook page under Corey’s picture. (You’ll have to scroll a bit so might as well like 90for90 while you’re there.)
~Keep a good thought for Corey Foister today. He’s doing something big here. Light a candle, say what you say, pray if you pray, dance, sing. Let’s do what Daily Kos does best — elect more and better Democrats.
