tonight’s feature presentation: Good news
What follows is a random sampling of good news from around the intertoobs. Hopefully something here will bring a smile to your face tonight.
From GoodNewsNetwork: Kindhearted Brothers Hand Out Brown Paper Bag Lunches To 200 Homeless (Video).
Two brothers, Derrell and Kyllon Martin, created ‘The Helping Lunchbox’ to help feed the homeless people in their New Orleans community.
From canoe.com News: Calgary kid meets Texas donor who saved his life.
Erik Gracia is spending his summer days like many other nine-year-olds: playing soccer, climbing trees and hanging out with his brothers.
Erik had just had a relapse of acute myeloid leukemia, and he needed a bone marrow transplant.
That stem cell donor, 23-year-old Brent Lewelling, recalls what it was like to get the call.
From TODAY News: Photo of man holding umbrella for strangers at Louisiana Target goes viral.
James Varnado brought a smile to many faces in Kenner, Louisiana, when he began helping Target shoppers to their cars in the middle of a heavy rainstorm with his trusty umbrella.
"I noticed this kind gentleman with a big smile on his face, drenched from head to toe, escorting women, mothers and kids to their cars, and helping them unload their groceries. Every time he returned, he said, "Who's next?' with a big smile on his face."
From the Huffington Post: Pokemon Go Players Rescue Dozens Of Abandoned Animals.
Sara Perez and her friend Matthew Teague were playing the game at a park in South Houston on Tuesday when they stumbled upon a cage full of 20 hamsters and seven newborn mice, apparently abandoned in the strong heat.
And it it weren’t for Pokemon Go, the pair never would have been there to rescue them.
From SpaceX: Another successful launch of cargo to the International Space Station, and landing of the reusable part of the rocket on dry land close to the launch pad. The webcast from the early hours Monday morning runs about 30 minutes from launch to landing. That actual landing is at about 25 minutes.
From the Calgary Herald: Rain-dampened Stampede ends on a high note.
And though there were a few scary-looking falls at the slippery, mud-splattered rodeo, there were no casualties or serious injuries — human or animal — as of Sunday afternoon.
This is the annual Calgary Stampede, a combination rodeo and regional fair. This year, the rodeo managed to not kill or seriously injure any horses. Last year, 4 horses died during chuckwagon race events, adding to the total of 94 horse deaths over the years since 1986.
So I’m going to count this as good news; they killed no horses this year, for the first year in some time.
A case can be made that it’s time to put this outdated show out of its misery.
From the Huffington Post: Warren Buffett Donates More Than $2.8 Billion To Charity.
(Reuters) - Warren Buffett, the billionaire chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc, has donated another roughly $2.86 billion of his holdings in the company’s stock to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and four family charities, as part of his plan to give away nearly his entire fortune.
Before the donations were announced, Forbes estimated Buffett’s net worth at $68.4 billion, trailing Bill Gates’ $77.6 billion and Spanish retailing magnate Amancio Ortega’s $74 billion. Amazon.com Inc founder Jeff Bezos followed Buffett, at $64.3 billion.
And finally, from lotac, your diarist tonight: I am filing documents to legally change my name to Charity.
What’s in your wallet world?

From JamieG from Md:
In eowynsdottir’s diary “I will not apologize for my candidate”, yankeegrl has an alphabet of reasons to love Hillary.
From The Marti:
In Ian Reifowitz’s diary “Scott Baio, hand-picked by Trump for RNC stage, retweeted Hillary meme with vile slur for lady part”, gf120581 wants to remind Trump which show he’s actually on tonight.
From BeninSC:
There were a number of excellent comments in Sher Watts Spooner’s rec list diary on the pilot/wingnut/lawmaker who called for Hillary Clinton to be hanged for her email practices as Secretary of State, but I particularly liked this one from Radiowalla. (This one, by mt41w, and this one, by old mule, placing the act in the context of that Germanwings flight 9525, in which 149 other people lost their lives when the co-pilot intentionally crashed the airplane.)
