This is my first diary in 6 years, but I've reached a point with the Republican party and the media interpretation of the equivalency between the major parties that I felt compelled to write one.

We need to stop treating Donald Trump and what he's doing as unprecedented. The author, Dara Lind, acts as if this is something new, but conservatism has always been about fear of the other.
This has been the calling card of the Republican party for decades.
Willie Horton, welfare queens, white flight, urban decay, "Law and order", the southern strategy, women's health, Make America Great Again, family values, 47% of Americans are "takers", all of these strategies and phrases are centered on several core conservative things.
Racism, homophobia, sexism, militant ascendant Christianity, xenophobia. Trump just pulled the polite society veneer clean off.
The veneer where you call a black person a thug when you privately mean nigger. The veneer where a rape victim is an "unfortunate misunderstanding" while you privately mean she had it coming because she was dressed like a slut. The veneer where all people are created equal, but not those gay people if it means we can't use our religious beliefs to discriminate! The veneer where you love your housekeeper, baby sitter, fruit or vegetable picker, and all of the people who do jobs that "real Americans don't want", but privately they're bringing crime, they're rapists and drug dealers, and need to be sent back so that good Americans can have those jobs "no one wants".
That so called journalists and taking heads remain astonished at this reality, and the inevitable rise and dominance of Donald Trump, is the great lie the Republican party has pulled for decades, and our media has willfully allowed to remain unchecked and unchallenged.
If Donald Trump is the drug that gets the Republican party to OD and die, particularly since they can't get anyone but old white people who are dead in another 15-30 years anyway to vote for them, good riddance to them all.
Yea, I said it.
