Last night, I watched HRC’s acceptance speech and intro by her daughter. There was genuine love in her eyes for Chelsea, who cited her mother’s inspirational tenacity, rejection of self-pity and relentless fight for women's and children’s rights.
This country loved Eleanor, worshiped Jackie, pitied Pat Nixon, but barely tolerated Hillary, who painted a target on her back by eschewing the sidelines and most vividly, intoned her infamous “vast right-wing conspiracy” line.
During Hillary’s speech I noticed in several cuts to Bernie— may his cause, message and fight endure against that very scourge— that he lacks one key political attribute... a flexible smile.
Somehow, we’ve conflated inflexible right-wing bully entitlement with any big-money influence, since Bernie’s stubbornly principled campaign did without. HRC didn’t— hence Hillary is the corrupt Bernie-killer, with all venom from the left essentially stemming from that.
For over two prior decades, right-lurching policies weren’t stopped and progressive action was starved of champions and funds and nobody took to the streets or petitioned congress or raged against the right-wing behemoth until Bernie rose from the bowels of Congress with Tolkien underdog grit and revived the left’s dormant spirit.
But last night, for anyone listening, you learned what Hillary was doing during that time...working the only existing system and pursuing the same ideological aims and never, ever quitting. Only along the way, she and Bill became afflicted with affluence, thus becoming part of the problem.
Let malarkey speak for itself where the left’s ambivalence about affluence is concerned.
Last night, for anyone listening, you heard HRC unambiguously assert alliance with Bernie’s key causes. Too little, too late?
Let the disillusioned convince themselves a wasted or unused vote will assuage their soul.
Let the youthful convince themselves a dream revolution is built on tweets and pixels from their glowing, callous-free palms.
Let them cut off their noses.
