Hello, I recently wrote a post about insanity and firearms. Now owning a firearm when you live in the country is not something that offends me. I spent my first 12 years in the western Mass mountins and we did have guns in the house----in a gun safe.
The other day I was reading one of Mark Twains essays where he suggested that nations should not have standing armies but instead a small group of champions to resolve disputes with any other nation by means of binding combat. He offhandedly suggested that these champions should have all be armed with something called shower guns (shotguns?). Being a curious man, I looked the phrase up.
When I found it, I found myself staring into what I think is madness! Today, a shower gun is a loaded handguns kept in a clear, water proof, plastic container attached to the wall of your shower. I immediately thought this must be snark but I read posting after posting suggesting the same thing. One posting that stands out in my minds was that of a man saying how relieved that he now had a shower gun. He explained that he had guns in every other room of his house but he was always concerned that some would break into his house and then into his locked bathroom while showering and that he had no way to defend himself there.
This is what drove my previous essay. Don’t believe me? Look it up yourself!
As for the charge of armchair psychiatry I can only say that I prefer to write sitting down. If you write standing up or walking around that is your business!
For those that compare gun collecting to Beany Babies, I am not aware of Beany Babies that can kill. If you use a gun safe or trigger locks that is probably alright although I would put my money into other things.
With respect, ERK
